“Sänna’s crew is ourselves; me and Dave – but nowadays, though not always, we are joined by my son Henry and sometimes Dave’s daughters Louise and Lauren. Henry spent many of his formative years from the age of three onboard Sänna, he was home educated on the boat by myself and Louise. Now he’s back in England for his university education but still finds valuable time to return to Sänna for extended periods. The rest of the time it’s just the two of us… plus Nellie, our ship’s cat…” Marie.

Nowadays these are called Bio’s, in the past they were called CV’s or curriculum vitas – but we’re ordinary people leading unusual lives. We each have knowledge and experience of the sea, including Nellie our ship’s cat though, more importantly, it is our ability to manage a basic form of foraging subsistence that’s key to our lifestyle.
